Welcome to the official website of
The Sunday Times Business Club
The Sunday Times Business Club was launched in 1995 by the Sunday Times newspaper, in association with Sri Lanka’s first mobile phone operator Celltel Lanka. Since then, it has grown to become one of the leading business clubs in the Sri Lankan capital, with a membership of about 40 professionals, corporate leaders and entrepreneurs.
The club is managed by an executive committee which is elected from among its members at an annual general meeting held in August each year. The Patron of the club is Mr. Feizal Samath, the Business Editor of the Sunday Times. A written constitution guides how the club operates, the selection process for new members and the election of office bearers.
A key component of the club’s activities is a bi-monthly panel discussion on a topic of current importance, held at a leading hotel in Colombo, with the panel usually comprising of three subject-matter experts. A Q&A session provides an opportunity for attendees to address questions to the panelists, after which, participants can freely interact and network. These events are open to all club members and their guests.
Message from the Patron
Born out of a desire to bring together young corporate executives for networking and sharing of ideas, the Sunday Times Business Club (STBC) has matured far beyond those formative years and the initial objectives, reaching nearly 30 years in 2022 It is now one of the oldest business clubs around.
Apart from the bonding, camaraderie and togetherness, the Club over its decades-long journey has evolved into a vibrant and dynamic entity that has been part of Sri Lanka’s social fabric.
Inviting speakers of repute from all strata of society – civil society actors, politicians from all sides, corporate heads, business chamber personalities, economists, central bankers, non-governmental barons, among others -, the STBC has been part of the intellectual discussion and part and parcel of the development of the nation.
Its panel discussions with top speakers and personalities on a range of topics have been given a high profile in the Sunday Times newspaper under whose aegis the club functions. Apart from these high-level monthly discussions, the club has also taken its societal obligations seriously, with many corporate social responsibility projects completed. The next decade will see the club rise to higher levels by its able membership headed by an active Executive Committee that is elected annually.
